and dangerous storm is moving from the south. it hit eastern missouri arkansas and tennessee. homes were damaged trees and power lines knocked down thousands lost power. >> the front stretches from texas to the northeast. one man has been killed in nashville and the storm also left its mark across indiana. reporter jessica hayes of wish-tv is in indianapolis. >> reporter: we're on the north side of indianapolis. this area is usually busy with computers and shoppers but straight line winds brought down a couple different power lines, one the worst damage you can see right here snapped off at the base and landed on top of this canopy of this costco gas station so this is closed. you did see damages on the west side of minneapolis, winds up to 60 miles an hour and if you go to the southern part of the state south of bloomington, indiana, a possible tornado touched down there, up to 20 homes have damage and the national weather service is on their way to determine if this, in fact, was a tornado. here we've got power crews are going to have a busy day here and around

. we have seen it time and time again. in the floodings in tennessee last year, businesses were wiped out. businesses were wiped ád tornadoes in alabama. because those cities andç towns saw there was a recovery plan, they were both ready to move out of the city. one was wrangler. the otherç was a &oç oç smi. they wereç going to leave the town they were in because everything was droid -- was destroyed. because there was a plan and quick action, the locality had a plan. the businesses decided to stay. with that, jobs stayed. people stayed. with that, people had hopeç. the workers, the community because we, not just government, the whole community came together. as much as anything else we do, all this work gives people hope and makes a difference. you are going to hear from a lot of different people today. i am going to step out and come up -- back. if you do not know some people, take the opportunity toç get to know othersç outside of your aa of comfort. take that time. you make a difference. people in this room make a huge difference. for the work you do each and eve

. with the tennessee floods a couple of years ago, we were looking at houses lost. a lot of people were being displaced. our great partners from hud got in there immediately with us. we were able to move people from one section 8 housing to another. they never had to go into fema housing. they did not have to move from place to place or program to program. we are able to move them into what would be their permanent homes. moving forward by that and focusing on what needs to be done as we're looking at a housing and challenges as we move forward. next we have infrastructure systems. i am not sure if anyone was able to join us from the corps of engineers. great. it is great to see you. çwe know the corps of engineers goes around the world building things and looking at roads systems, utility systems. it is not just the corps of engineers. it is looking at things we need to reconstruct. how will we do that? how do you wanted to come back? natural and cultural resources, the department of interior is the lead on that. we need to be cognizant of the great history we have, the environment, and everything e

on the roadways. quite dangerous across the mid south and tennessee valley. the wind chills, if you're not bundled up, feels like minus 1 in new york, 7 in chicago. across the west it's warm. so there is warmth across the map, just not across portions of the upper midwest and the great lakes and northeast down towards the ohio river valley. as you head towards kentucky and tennessee, see that pink, that's that mixture of ice, freezing rain, sleet. it's going to make travel very difficult. they have e got the sand out there. they're going to try to make sure the roadways are at least a little bit okay. the best advice if you've got freezing rain in your area is to stay off the roads. travel forecast: looking at that mixture of sleet and freezing rain, parts of tennessee and kentucky, temperature freezing, right around 32 in nashville. as you head towards ashville, the carolinas, you get the potential for ice and freezing rain on the roadways. north of the carolinas, it will be mainly a snow event. one to four inches. not a blockbuster storm but is going to cause travel delays on the roadways and i

the arch looked like at the tennessee beach at tennessee cove for decades. for many years it's also been a favorite spot for pictures. but on december 29th. a graduate student at the institute of technology was on the beach taking pictures when all of a sudden that arch came tumbling down. the graduate student and his geologist father said the noise was so loud it also blocked out the sounds of the waves. >>> it starts way up here and you see the curser this red line. when the systems come like this they come up over the cold and down over the land like this they don't have a chance to warm up. a lot of times these systems worm up but this one coming down is going to be a cold one. cold systems carry little moisture with them. so we're not expecting rain or precipitation from it. this one will see a few sprinkles but not a lot. maybe .01, .1 at the most. fog is going to be a problem tomorrow morning. as you head off to work get going around town, early morning the fog will be in the east bay and south bay valley. the dewpoints are running right about where the temperatures are right now.
